Blu and Mainframe, who’ve been killing it on the underground scene over the last couple of years, celebrate the official launch of their new label, New World Color. New World Color is a multidimensional entertainment company that John Barnes (Blu) and Jon Ancheta (Mainframe) created. “It’s basically an outlet for us to release our art & products that we create through our own channel, using our acquired sources, in our preferred environment at our own time & pace.” (via We’ve Got the Jazz) In celebration of the NWC launch Blu and Mainframe released their first music video “DISCO D.Y.N.A.M.I.T.E.” earlier this year. To also bless the stage is San Francisco’s own DaVinci. The Fillmore resident released his debut album The Day the Turf Stood Still under the Swtbrds label and has set different goals than the typical emcee. DaVinci’s music resonates with the authenticity of life experiences. “The Day The Turf Stood Still is the soundtrack for gentrification and urban renewal,” says DaVinci. “I want to capture the mental state of generations of minorities struggling to preserve and revitalize the last breath of culture we have.” (via 2dopeboyz and HiphopDX) Check out some of DaVinci’s music videos here.

the Listening Lounge is back for the OH-TEN. going almost three years strong every third friday. thanks to you!

For the first Listening Lounge of the year we’ve got something really special. something we’ve never done before in these last three years. first and foremost, ultimately, Listening Lounge is about good music. period. and for the first Listening Lounge of the year we thought we’d give it to our homies to showcase the immense amount of musical talent the Bay has to offer on the X-chromosome side of thangs. so to jump start 2010, we’re inviting you to “LADIES FIRST”

trust us, you aint never seen anything like RRS. on stage with a 3 x 4 setup (thats 3 mixers and 4 turntables yall!! holla!!) they combine classic turntablist techniques with funk, uptempo, disco, boogie, and hiphop (of course) to create a completely new and unique style. trust when we say: you. can. not. miss. this.

these two have been innovating their way through the Bay’s Hip-Hop scene for quite sometime. its almost like’ “finally!” when we got the opportunity to get them on Listening Lounge. the first ever female DJ team to compete in the DMC in its entire 20 year lifespan. they have done much to keep the wheels of the Bay’s turntablist heritage moving and growing including their party Skratchpad which was an “open mic” for DJs to flex their chops and just build with each other. they created a true hub for the community. plus: they will be performing their 2 x 4 set at Listening Lounge.
