Encore featuring DJ Neil Armstrong Friday, July 30th

Long before he was Jay Z’s tour DJ for all of 2008 and 2009, or a Global Brand Ambassador for Adidas for 2010, Neil Armstrong was a humble, fan of music. And he has never changed.

Acknowledged as the founding father of the DJ Collective the “5th Platoon”, Neil was born and breed in NYC, cutting his teeth in the early 90’s during the era of backpack Hip-Hop and the art of Turntablism. His time spent in the trenches battling and mastering the art of spinning allowed him to rock shows alongside artists across the Hip-Hop spectrum – from De La Soul, The Roots, Company Flow and Biz Markie, to Kanye West, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes and Wyclef Jean; he was also a member of the critically acclaimed 2 time Grammy -Nominated jazz band – Russell Gunn and Ethnomusicology, playing alongside iconic musicians Kenny Garrett (a member of Miles Davis’ band) and Brandford Marsalis.

Over the last 9 years, he has made an indelible mark in the sub-genre of Hip-Hop known as “Mixtape Culture.” Neil’s highly-regarded mixtapes represent his eclectic music taste and have generated considerable press, most-notably in Rolling Stone, Vibe, MTV.com, Theme, URB and Complex.

Neil has traveled the globe for an array of club appearances and events. He has been the NBA’s DJ of choice for their Rookie Shootout since 2006 and he has performed in Stockholm, Finland, Norway, Ireland, Holland, Poland, Belgium, Iceland, Nigeria, Germany, Vancouver, Toronto, the Phillipines, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and Tokyo, just to name a few spots.

From rocking in front of over 100,000 fans at the Glastonbury Festival, to anchoring a performance on the Letterman Show, to pumping with ice-cold veins at Madison Square Garden (three consecutive shows no less), DJ Neil Armstrong is now in the highest strata of DJ existence.

And even though he can now been seen in videos with Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige, has spun for adidas at the Olympic Games in Beijing, has shared the stage with Rihanna, Beyonce, Kanye West, Young Jeezy, Swiss Beats, Puff Daddy, Timbaland, Bun B, Memphis Bleek, EPMD, and Method Man, or performed alongside Slayer, Interpol, The Cool Kids, Common, Neil Young, Mark Ronson, Coldplay, NERD, and Linkin Park, Neil is as humble and focused as ever.

Fashawn:
World meet Fashawn – a 90’s baby hailing from Central California whose music will leave you believing that maybe Hip Hop’s golden era has yet to arrive. Full of raw talent, charisma, and an undying hunger, the 20 year old emcee is the breath of fresh air hip-hop has been waiting for. Placed in a group home by child services at the age of 12, Fashawn found solace in music, and began writing rhymes to escape the less than desirable hand he had been dealt so early in life. In 2006, Fashawn released his first mixtape, “Grizzly City”. Catching the attention of fellow Fresno emcee, Planet Asia, Fashawn was invited to go on the road with him. Since then he’s had the honor of working with two of the Mid-West’s premier DJs, Mick Boogie and Terry Urban on the Orisue clothing sponsored “One Shot One Kill” mixtape, and with Hip-Hop internet heavyweights OnSmash.com and NahRight.com on his “Higher Learning” mixtape. Both efforts garnered him nationwide recognition.

Exile:
Aleksander Manfredi (born in San Diego, California), better known by his stage name Exile, is an American hip hop DJ, producer and occasional rapper. His first record appearances came as a member of hip hop duo Emanon alongside rapper Aloe Blacc. They released various singles beginning with 1998′s “P.S.I.” before releasing their debut album, Anon & On. After 2002, Exile went on to release one more Emanon album well as a solo album, 2006′s Dirty Science, and another collaborative effort, 2007′s Below the Heavens. The latter album was critically acclaimed for Exile’s productions and raps by new artist Blu. Exile’s guest production work with artists including Mobb Deep, Ghostface Killah, Kardinal Offishall and Jurassic 5 is also renowned. He claims his influences to be contemporary producers J Dilla, Jon Brion and Madlib. He is known for “coarsely chopped beats” that give off “laid back soulful vibes.”

Topkat:
Bay Area, California artist, TOPKAT, transcends the boundaries of hip-hop not only with his rhyme style, but also with exceptional substance in his music. He continues Vallejo, California’s rich tradition of innovation in the genre and, has the ability to present its many flavors, including dance, party, and conscious music. And not to disappoint the purists, TOPKAT paints a rare blend of life’s soulful struggles and triumphs with his lyrics, challenges his audience with political undertones, and packages it all in a timeless hip-hop sound—destined to be a classic. In an era when some people believe the relevance of the genre has lost touch with the average person on the street, TOPKAT presents the kind ofmusic that first turned people on to the beautiful culture of hip-hop.Unlike many of today’s young emerging artists, TOPKAT is a seasoned performer and haspaid his dues.

6Fingers:
Known for contributing creativity, originality, and good old fashioned independent hustle to the Hip Hop world – Vallejo, California (The Bay Area) yields another rising star through this musical producer called 6Fingers. Avoiding the label of one particular sound or style, he can merge today’s music with his own unique twists and produces unlike any other. 6Fingers specializes in Hip Hop and R&B sounds, though he can apply his talents across the rainbow of genres heard today. “6fingers beats can’t be described. There’s nothing out there quite like it. You have to experience it! But afterwards, you’ll know when you’re hearing a 6fingers beat.” Topkat.” His sound continues to build and evolve out of his pure love affair of music. He works relentlessly in his personal studio called The Guts, where he concocts his masterpieces, favoring his weapons of choice, which are an Akai MPC 2000XL, hella vinyl, a turntable, and a few sound modules.
